About us

The March Society is the civic society for March and began as a new venture in September 2007.

We are involved in conservation and preservation, and aim to promote and preserve all that is the best in the built and natural environment of the town.

There is nowhere quite like March.

Our aims are

  • to promote high standards of planning and architecture in March;
  • to inform about the geography, history, natural history and architecture of March;
  • to support the protection,development and improvement of features of interest in March;
  • and to promote civic pride in March.
We have monthly talks at March Library, on topics related to the past, present and future of March.

We have heritage walks in March and district, arrange photographic displays, and are involved in helping to organise March’s Heritage Open Days.

The March Society cooperates with the local authorities, voluntary organisations and groups with similar aims.

As part of the Fenland District Local Plan, members of TMS, as volunteers, visited properties in March which they felt may be worthy of some protection as ‘Buildings of Local Interest’.  The March Society would like to see a 'Buildings of Local Interest' List and a 'Buildings at Risk' List.

Membership allows you to influence the future: to become involved in influencing decisions taken about our town, to learn more about March and meet people with similar interests.
